The attitudes of healthcare providers regarding blindness and low vision play a vital role in how patients perceive and adjust to losing their vision. For example, if the practitioner informs the patient that they are losing their vision and cannot work, the patient tends to take on that same attitude and belief. The opposite is also true. If the practitioner informs the patient that they are losing their vision, but there are resources available to help them with employment, the patient will likely believe that they can work. This course is designed to educate ophthalmic professionals about working with vision loss to improve attitudes towards work and employment outcomes.

Course Objectives:

1. Explain the impact ophthalmic professionals can have on the pursuit of employment after vision loss.
2. Describe how assistive technology can help individuals gain and sustain employment.
3. Identify resources that can aid people with vision loss with gaining and sustaining employment.
4. Summarize the importance of employment for persons with vision loss (and more)!
