This course explores the factors that influence job retention for individuals who are blind or have low vision. Designed for vocational rehabilitation professionals, it examines common barriers to maintaining employment, the skills that contribute to long-term success, and the role of vocational rehabilitation programs in supporting retention. Participants will also gain insights through actual quotes from individuals with blindness or low vision about what truly impacts their ability to stay employed.

This course is available for 1 hour of CRC credit.

Course Objectives: 

After completing this course, participants will be able to: 

  • Discuss common barriers to job retention experienced by people with blindness or low vision.
  • Identify the skills necessary to promote job retention among people with blindness or low vision
  • Identify the personal characteristics that people with blindness or low vision believe lead to job retention. 
  • Recognize issues within the vocational rehabilitation program that program participants believe impact job retention in both positive and negative ways.
  • Describe how WIOA addresses job retention for vocational rehabilitation program participants.
